Formed in 2019, Kingmaker is a book publisher dedicated to the rock music sector. Kingmaker is run by Prog magazine journalist/Big Big Train manager Nick Shilton and Big Big Train founder Greg Spawton.
Kingmaker prioritises quality over quantity. We do not aim to become a mass market publisher or publish countless titles annually. Instead our mission is to devote ourselves to a handful of books each year, which tell the stories of various bands and artists to delight their fans, while providing books to treasure as works of art themselves.
Kingmaker’s books are lovingly written and immaculately produced, with attention to detail in the text complemented by beautiful design and imagery. Kingmaker’s official stores are Burning Shed for the UK/Europe and The Band Wagon USA for North America. RSK is Kingmaker’s distributor.
Since 1994 Nick has worked as a finance lawyer in London and Paris for one of the world’s leading law firms, founded and served as Chief Executive of a leading international legal recruitment business employing over 100 staff in the UK, continental Europe, the Middle East and Asia, run a record label and written extensively about rock music for several magazines, most notably Prog Magazine and Classic Rock.
Nick also runs Kingmaker Management.

Greg is the founder of progressive rock band Big Big Train.
Big Big Train have enjoyed significant success with their studio albums and won considerable acclaim for their recent live shows, including headlining the prestigious Night Of The Prog festival in Loreley, Germany in 2018. They have been positively reviewed by numerous music publications around the world and in national UK newspapers, including The Times.
Big Big Train have been named Prog magazine’s Band of the Year on numerous occasions as well as winning Prog’s Album Of The Year awards several times.
